Frequently asked questions
Why do some symbols show as boxes?
Your device does not have that character in its font, which mostly happens on older phones. Try a similar symbol from the same section.
Do these symbols work on WhatsApp, Instagram and in games?
Yes. They are ordinary Unicode text, so they work anywhere you can type. Games may reject a few; the gaming symbols section lists the ones most players use.
What is the difference between a symbol and an emoji?
Symbols such as ★ or ♥ take the colour of your text. Emojis such as ⭐ or ❤️ have their own colours, and each phone brand draws them in its own way.
