Words you repeat most
Words you use more than once appear here (common words like the, and, to are skipped).
Characters are counted the way you see them: an emoji or an accented letter counts as one. Some apps count certain emojis as 2, so leave a small margin. Your text never leaves your browser.
When you need a word count
- School and college assignments with a minimum or maximum word limit.
- Statements of purpose and college essays, which often have strict limits.
- Abstracts for papers and projects, usually 150 to 300 words.
- Speech and video scripts: the speaking time shows how long it will run.
- Blog posts: the reading time is what many sites show at the top.
How words are counted
A word is a group of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Hyphenated words such as "well-known" count as one. Reading time uses about 220 words a minute and speaking time 140, a calm pace for a presentation or video.
Frequently asked questions
Is the count the same as Microsoft Word or Google Docs?
Almost always, or within a word or two. Small differences can come from hyphenated words or numbers with symbols, which each program counts its own way.
Why are "the", "and" and "to" not in my most repeated words?
They appear in every text and say little, so they are left out to show the words you are really repeating.
Is my text saved?
No. Counting happens in your browser; your text is not sent or stored anywhere.
